After two or three builds, you will start to notice the limits of basic tools. Nippers leave slight stress marks, sanding by hand takes too long, and fine panel lines are hard to deepen consistently. Intermediate tools solve these specific frustrations — each one targets a part of the build process that becomes a bottleneck as your standard rises.
The biggest visual jump in Gunpla comes from post-build finishing: sanding nub marks smooth, scribing sharper panel lines, and applying custom decals. These steps require dedicated tools — sanding sticks, scribers, and decal setters — but the result is a model that looks professionally assembled rather than straight-built from the box.
Weathering markers, metallic pens, and decal solutions let you add personality and realism to your kits. Start subtle — a few streaks or worn-edge effects go a long way. Custom water-slide decals from Indian and international makers are increasingly available and dramatically improve the look of any kit without major painting skills.
